The West Oakland Job Resource Center (WOJRC) is a project of the City of Oakland with Urban Strategies Council acting as its fiscal agent. The WOJRC’s mission is to transform the lives of low-income, under-served residents of Oakland, particularly West Oakland, through family-sustaining careers in the construction building trades, and transportation, distribution, and logistics sectors. 

Position Summary

This is a temporary, part-time, paid Internship (20 flexible hours weekly for 10 weeks) at the West Oakland Job Resource Center; Urban Strategies Council will serve as the employer of record. The Intern-Program Assistant reports directly to the Program Director and/or designee and will provide programmatic assistance to meet the operational needs of the WOJRC. This position is designed to provide on-the-job experience for college students interested in social justice service careers such as non-profit administration, case manager, social worker, and public policy.

Job Duties

  • Communicate program updates, requirements, and policies to the general public, clients, employers, and community stakeholders
  • Staff front-office: address public, phone, and email inquiries
  • Data entry of initial client intake, scheduling, and follow up to support case management
  • Maintain updated program and outreach materials of all programs, to include but not limited to referral services, partner agencies, education and training programs, etc.
  • Support administrative processes and systems to support daily operations of the center
  • Assist with the development and distribution of monthly newsletter/calendar
  • Process AP/AR in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • All other duties assigned

  • Detail-oriented, flexible, self-starter
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficient
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Mandarin/Cantonese, Other) preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations

  • Oakland resident preferred
  • Full or part-time college student

Compensation

$15 - $17 per hour
